Courtney Holds #1; Oasis and Dilana Close But Far
Courtney Love's "Pacific Coast Highway", which leaked last month as a radio rip, spends a second straight week at #1 after debuting straight at the top last week. While it doesn't look like she'll be giving up #1 just yet, Oasis climbs 3-2 with "The Masterplan" and Dilana moves 5-3 with "Supersoul", both aiming to pull off an unlikely surprise.
In other news relating to the "Rock Star: Supernova" finalists charting, Patrice Pike claims another top 5 hit as "Beautiful Thing" jumps 12-5, while Everything After's "Not A Lie" moves 15-12; if the band featuring finalist Dana Andrews gets into the top 10, Andrews will join Pike, Dilana, Storm Large, and Ryan Star as the fifth RS:S finalist to get a top 10 JT40 hit.
The pick of the week comes from Melissa McClelland's "Passenger 24", which moves 10-6 in its fifth chart week. It's been rising steadily for the past few weeks but should continue doing well in the coming weeks.
The week's greatest gainer is Justin Timberlake's "What Goes Around...", up nine from 28-19 in its second chart week.
After a two year absence, Beyonce returns to JT40 with "Irreplaceable" at #28, also the week's highest debut. The third single from her album "B'Day", which has proven to be one of the biggest hits of the moment, is her first chart appearance since she charted as a member of Destiny's Child with "Soldier" (#15 in January 2005), though this is her first solo appearance since "Naughty Girl" (#1 in May 2004).
Hinder debuts at #29 with "Better Than Me" which will serve as the second pop release from their "Extreme Behavior" album, while Dutch opera-rockers Within Temptation make their first JT40 appearance as "The Howling", a leaked track from their upcoming new album (which will also be their debut album in the US); however, the first single, "What Have You Done", is expected to leak next month.
Meanwhile, thanks to the long-awaited release of her debut album "Images", Naomi Striemer re-enters the top 40 at #34 with "Cars" featuring Santana. Charting on a radio rip, it went as high as #21 in its mid-September-late October chart run; with the calendar year ending this week, it's only the third song in 2006 to re-enter the top 40 after dropping off, following Daniel Powter's "Bad Day" and Better Than Ezra's "Juicy".
Have a happy new year everyone!
